Discover your summer with a jam-packed programme of events for all the family across Leeds Museums and Galleries.
Throughout the summer holidays, you can become a summer explorer at Lotherton. The estate will be open for outdoor fun, where you will find a lovely new trail of willow sculptures made by a local artist, along with plenty of areas for the kids to let off steam in the playgrounds and woodland. You can also visit the new Nocturnal House to see bats, a kinkajou, Gaston the armadillo and a pair of giant cloud rats at Wildlife World!
Make a day of it at Temple Newsam Estate, house and farm. Explore the Faith Hardwick trail in the house to unlock its historical secrets. Meet the rare breed animals at Home Farm. Enjoy the two large playgrounds and pick the perfect spot for a family picnic within the acres of land outdoors!
Leeds City Musuem is travelling to a land of myths and legends for the summer holidays with a whole host of pre-bookable activities each week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. You can also download or pick up a trail to explore the marvellous magical myth stories from different cultures around the world too!
Discover Thwaite Watermill this summer and celebrate the joy of nature with family fun activities including mini-beast magic and Green Week. As well as story time & crafts, and willow weaving, there are free trails and activities packs too, with plenty of space to park up for a picnic!
You can also double your days out Thwaite Watermill and Leeds Industrial Museum and during the summer holidays with their buy one get one free scheme! All you have to do is buy a full price entry into one attraction and get into the other one complete free of charge!
Take part in Leeds Industrial Museum’s Summer nature project! To celebrate their partnership with the Natural History Museum (and to put a little bit of nature back into the museum’s urban landscape), their expert entomologist has chosen some very interesting insect examples from the Leeds collection for you to explore! Make a simple bug home and some wild flower petal pods to take away and create your own urban nature corner at home. Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during August from 12.30-3.30pm.
Join Kirkstall Abbey for a woolly great summer of sheep themed activities. From their baa-tastic trail to find the whole flock, to learning about the different types of sheep in the UK (there are over 60 breeds?!) to creating your own sheep themed masterpiece with art packs to use around the ruins!
And why not venture over the road to Abbey House Museum where some of your favourite fairy tale characters and creatures have taken over the Victorian Streets! You can also pick up a bumper craft bag to take home to keep little ones entertained. And don’t forget to check out the Sounds of Our City exhibition on the first floor!
