A full-day workshop where we will explore experimental approaches to drawing and mark-making using a range of materials and surfaces.
Thursday 17th August: Mixed Media
A workshop where we will explore a wide range of materials including charcoal, ink, paint, chalk and oil pastels, wax resist and collage. It will be an opportunity to work with these different mediums to find exciting combinations that will enhance our future practice.
Tuesday 22nd August: Print
We will begin with making a collagraph and then move on to block printing using Lino and some experimental work with Monoprint. Once we have introduced these different methods, we will encourage you to explore further your own preferences, possibly combining the different techniques and working towards some final prints.
Summer School: Days of Life Drawing
10am to 3pm. £65 per session
Thursday 10th August: Charcoal, chalk and graphite
We will be working simple materials that have been used throughout history to capture the figure. During the session we will look at how we can use some simple techniques to explore the lines, mass and relationships within the body, specifically looking at how we make the first marks and then go on to sustain the energy throughout drawing.
Tuesday 15th August: Watercolour, ink, pigment and brush
A session aimed at finding the flow and movement in the body and responding using a range of water based mediums.
We will work with different scales, large and small brushes resting our paper on easels, tables and the floor. The poses will be off different durations and not always perfectly still! We may well end up making a
large collaborative drawing which can remain on display or be sliced and diced and taken home.
Thursday 24th August. 10am to 3pm: Print, collage and paint
An opportunity to use some non-traditional methods in response to the human figure using monoprint and relief printing methods. We will then look at the work of collage artists and develop a series of responses to some longer poses using a range of materials.
We are also offering some evening two-hour sessions between 6.30-8.30pm at a cost of £25 per session.
Fully tutored, all materials provided with light refreshments
The adult Visual Arts two-hour sessions will be drawing (8th August), Mixed Media (17th August) and Print (22nd August)
