These sessions are for women and mamas to take time out of their busy weeks to be nourished and held in the community. Whilst the singing is for the women it is so wonderful for the little ones to be bathed in music as they play on the blankets in the centre of the circle.
Singing Mamas Otley is run by Clair Linsdell, a singer & violin player with over two decades of musical experience including performance, tuition & workshop facilitation. Clair aims to bring acceptance of all our ups, downs & mysteries to her singing circle work, along with warmth, inclusivity & humour.
Clair has partnered with the national non-profit community interest company Singing Mamas to bring you this offering.
Each session starts with some mindful warm-ups, gentle movement, deep breathing or a sweet simple song. Then we’ll check in with each other and see what’s present for each of us. For the main part of the session of course we’ll SING! We loop short phrases learnt by call and response and then weave them together to layer up rhythms & gorgeous harmonies. Afterwards, we’ll drink tea, share some homemade cake and have a chat.
We sing anything and everything; pop, world songs, traditional folk, sacred chants, and soul. What you can be sure of is this; you’ll pick it up quickly without any sheet music, you won’t be waiting around for others to learn their part, no one is put on the spot and the songs are chosen to support well-being.
We welcome mamas and their little ones, grandmas, aunties, friends, pregnant women and women without children. All voices are welcome from confident singers to shy and everyone in between.
Sessions are priced from £6.40 (which includes tea & cake) with options for a monthly payment as well as flexible drop-in sessions.
