Piglets only re-opened on 1st August 2020 and we eagerly pre-booked our tickets online a couple of weeks ago, to go on Monday 3rd August! The tickets are available in 30 minute slots, so to give us time to drive the 45 minutes from Wakefield, we chose the 11am slot (we are not an early waking family!!)
We were met by a friendly man in the car park who made sure we had pre-booked and then gave us some essential information before we parked up … basically take everything with you that you need to limit the movements through the check in area and that you can use the undercover marquee areas for shade or to hide from any rain!
If you haven’t been to Piglets before the easiest way to describe it is a huge outdoor adventure playfield with different activities such as bouncy pillows, adventure playgrounds, go-karts, sit-on diggers as well as a huge beach, fairy trail, animal farmyard trail and maize maze!! There were still a few activities closed due to Coronavirus restrictions but you really wouldn’t know it as there is so much to do … Mini Mumbler didn’t go on everything and had a fab time!!
There was loads of space so our group set up camp between two picnic benches so we had a base for the kids to come back to. As there were so many child-friendly hand sanitisers around and reduced capacity, I felt confident to let Mini Mumbler have free-play without having to watch over him the whole time, I just explained to him that he needed to sanitise his hands if he moved between different areas.
His favourite area was definitely the beach, which is a new edition since we were last here. It is surrounded by beach huts which you can hire at an additional fee. One family had rented for a 3rd birthday and had banners and balloons up and another I saw had a tiny baby so was great at providing some shade! We had brought our own bucket and spade but there was lots of communal equipment for the children to use. Mini Mumbler loved using the water pump to build dams , water channels and holes full of water (of course he sat in it right at the end!!)
We also checked out the maize maze which this year was a one way route with animal clues along the way instead of a timed puzzle ! I actually really liked the one way system as it allowed the kids to run freely without us panicking that we had lost them!!
Of course, you can’t go to Piglets without seeing piglets!! There were some 2 week old ones in the maternity shed and they were so cute!! We also gave one of the big pigs a tickle with a big broom!!
We had a great day out, so much so that we were told that they were closing and were one of the last ones to leave!! On the way home Mini Mumbler was already asking when we could come back!!
A huge thank you to Piglets for a really safe and comfortable day out … you can see that they have worked really hard getting the adventure farm ready for opening and their staff are working super hard to make sure everything is clean and tidy – we even saw them sanitising the picnic benches!!
