There’s plenty of reasons to celebrate your summer staycation. During the school holidays, it’s buy one get one free at Leeds Industrial Museum and Thwaite Watermill. Basically buy full price entry into one attraction and get into the other one completely free of charge. There’s plenty to see and do and lots of lovely outdoor space to enjoy in the sunshine.
At Leeds Industrial Museum get up close to spinning wheels and working looms, housed inside the Grade II listed Armley Mills. Learn all about the industries which made Leeds world-famous including tailoring, printing, film making and more. Meanwhile the Leeds to Innovation exhibition celebrates the people and inventions which contributed to the creative city we know and love today. Learn about local links to Jelly Tots, board games and Scootacars! The museum is also home to the 1920s Palace Picture House, a 24 seat cinema which is one of the smallest working cinemas in the world!
A short distance from the city centre, Thwaite Watermill is nestled on a tiny island by the canal. Explore the 1940s Mill Managers house, the industrial mill buildings and the nature trail. This summer Thwaite celebrates the joy of nature and the outdoors with family fun activities. There’s story time and crafts with Matthew Bellwood and willow weaving on 26 August. Get up close to mini beasts with handling sessions delivered by Lion Learners on 12 August and explore insects and creepy crawlies from the Leeds collection. There’s free trails and activity packs, plus plenty of places to pitch a picnic in the sunshine!
