According to a survey by property portal Rightmove, more than half of those surveyed confirmed lockdown has influenced what people are looking for in their next home. Buyers non-negotiable demands have uncovered a shift away from ‘vanity features’ such as the size of the kitchen and moved towards a dedicated room for home working and outside space in the form of a garden, roof terrace or balcony.
Findings from a report released by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors confirms a shift in priorities. Based on speaking to buyers, four-fifths of property professionals surveyed across the UK believe there will be an increased desire for homes with gardens or balconies. At the other end of the spectrum, 58% believe homes in very built-up areas will be less appealing.
David Phillip FRICS said “there are already signs that people looking to buy a house are responding to the conditions created by Covid-19 and looking for properties with gardens and near to green spaces.
Properties with these features are likely to increasingly command a premium over higher-density urban locations. “
