Have a leaf crunchingly full day out at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal this October half term. Prepare for a big day out as little legs can spend even more time exploring as there’s a new tower to climb in the play area. Let them explore a miniature How Hill Tower, as well as the wooden abbey, swings and zipline. The play area is pram and wheelchair accessible from the visitor centre – just a minute or two away. Make the world spin on a wheelchair accessible roundabout and swing high in a five-point harness swing. Come along for the morning to let the kids run wild and know that hot drinks and cake, plus facilities are nice and close by.
October means one thing; it’s time for Fountains by Floodlight! Wrap up for an after-dark adventure through the atmospheric ruins. Indulge in tasty pizzas, pies, hotdogs and toasties (veggie and vegan options are available too) before listening to the choir sing in the cellarium and have your biggest ever game of hide and seek in all corners of the abbey.
Hear the bellows of the male deer on a guided deer rut walk and pop by medieval farm building Swanley Grange to have a go at some woolly heritage crafts. You can also make a bright and colourful autumn leaf crown to wear home!
Be a historian with an audio guide or family tour in the abbey and race around the moon ponds. Have a snack stop at Mill Café or indulge in a hot chocolate with a lakeside view at Studley tea-room!
