Light up your evenings this October at Fountains by Floodlight. Wrap up warm, grab a torch and have an adventure you won’t forget as the sky grows dark and the abbey ruin shines through the night. Wander through glowing archways, chase shadows and hear live music ringing through the air while you enjoy delicious local treats.

Fountains by Floodlight is a feast for all your senses…

Watch as the night sky falls over the abbey and ruins start to glow with light.

Grab a torch and chase your shadows as you experience the abbey like never before. Between 7 pm-8 pm join us in the cellarium as the voices of choirs ring through the ruin as darkness falls.

Hop along to Grass Hoppers indoor and outdoor play area at Tong Garden Centre for a proper playtime!

You’ll find a huge outdoor adventure playground with sand pits and bouncing pillows and a large indoor play area, with sports court, big play frame and a baby and toddler zone, where your young ones can enjoy playtime – whatever the weather!

There’s also great grub including pizzas, toasties and award winning ice cream in Woody’s Kitchen!

It’s the Witching Hour, and deep in the spooky forest where a world-famous Prophetess was said to have been born during a terrifying thunderstorm, the spirits are flying high. You may hear the cackle of old souls wandering the ancient woodland or feel a shiver down your spine as you step into the Haunted Halloween Village.

Suitable for all ages, watch out for witches, ghosts, and creepy skeletons around every corner! There’s frightful fun to be had with photo opportunities and fancy dress competitions. Keep the children spellbound this October half term with a week of frightful fun!

The Halloween Adventure is spooky fun and never scary, so is suitable for even the smallest of monsters! Stockeld Park will be transformed for this year’s enchanting Halloween festivities!

There will be lots of spellbinding surprises in store in the Enchanted Forest, and little ones will love to explore our pumpkin patch, to pick their very own pumpkin to take home! Every paying child will get to choose a free pumpkin!

Spooky real live characters will be dotted around the park, making fantastic photo opportunities and enchanting interactions for the whole family to enjoy!

New for this year, skeletons have taken over Stockeld, with the skeleton trail! Will you spot them all? Make sure you don’t get trapped in the Hansels and Gretel’s jail! Try your luck in the graveyard golf – our brand new Halloween mini golf – undercover so you can play whatever the weather!

There’s something suitably scary for all ages, and for those who like to be truly frightened, will you dare to enter our haunted escape rooms!? Trapped inside The Basement or The Attic at one of the most haunted houses in Yorkshire, you and your team must use all your skills and knowledge to escape before your time runs out!

Bolton Abbey Welly Walk

Prepare for lots of fun and mud! Our woodland adventure trail leads you from the stepping stones to the Cavendish Pavilion. We would advise pre-booking a Bolton Abbey Car Park ticket for this activity.

Let your little ones put their balance skills to the test, scramble up nets, navigate the pole-to-pole and try their hardest to keep clean as they come down the slides! With many more obstacles in-between – it’s fun from start to finish!

This is a challenging adventure and some obstacles are not suitable for all age groups. Children must be supervised at all times.

  • This is a free activity. The usual Estate admission fee applies
  • Tickets must be booked in advance
  • Children must be supervised at all times
  • This path is steep in sections with unguarded steep drops. It is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.
  • Dogs are welcome, however we do ask that you remember not all children like dogs, so please keep them on a lead.
  • Please wear appropriate footwear, especially when it has been wet – it’s not called the Welly Walk for no reason! A spare set of clothing is recommended!

Leeds Scare Trails

What are the Leeds Scare Trails..?
The Leeds Scare trails are a fabulous Halloween charity fundraiser consisting of two VERY different trails..! 100% of the revenue is donated to local charities and Good causes including Charlie’s Angel Centre Foundation, West Park Rugby Club, Hug on a tray and Addingham Scouts!
🎃The daytime Pumpkin Trail runs from 10-5 on Sat 30th and Sunday 31st October. Follow a trail of over 200 pumpkins along a trail in the heart of Golden Acre Park, with lots of games and activities to do along the way! It’s a free event (suggested donation of £1, it’s a fundraiser after all!). Complete the Pumpkin Trail activities to enter a price draw it’s a fun day out for all the family!
😈The second trail is VERY different… The Frightmare Trail starts as the night draws in, a 2km interactive walk through the park with live and un-dead Actors, special sound and lighting effects it’s truly the thing of nightmares.. The Frightmare Trail is on for one night only, Sat 30th October; gates open at 6.30 with last entry at 9.30 – Tickets are £7 online and £10 on the night! Due to the nature of the trail, it’s recommended for brave souls aged 13+ so parental discretion is advised, but anyone under 13 MUST be accompanied by an adult! Hot and cold refreshments are available on the night as well as Frightmare merchandise and 100% of the revenue goes to local charities and good causes! 🧟

October Half Term at Thwaite Watermill

Head to Thwaite Watermill for the half term holidays and hit the nature trail by the canal. The Watermill is set on a tiny island by the Aire and Calder navigation which provides a beautiful backdrop for a autumnal stroll during the spooky season. To keep the little ones entertained there’s a Halloween themed trail through the Victorian house, mill buildings and grounds. Track down the coded clues hidden through the site to unlock the witches magic spell! There’s also grab and go craft activities which you’re welcome to complete during your visit or take away to complete them at home.

Pumpkin Festival at Birchfield Ice Cream Farm

Open 2nd – 31st October 2021 for pumpkin picking, 10 am-4 pm.

Head down to the farm and pick your perfect pumpkin from the patch, there are 1000s to choose from! Then head to the carving shed where you can get creative and design a spooky face. The carving barn is where the creativity begins! Whether it’s spooky, scary or happy you can let your imagination run wild. Leave the mess with us, feed the slimy insides of your pumpkin to the hungry pigs in the farmyard.

Enter at your own risk through the giant spooky gates at the start of Strid Wood. Follow our trail of oversized pumpkins through Strid Wood and discover the mystery doors hidden among the trees. Behind each door is a clue to help unravel the witch’s magical spell. With a fun surprise awaiting you at The Strid, it will be worth the journey to get there!
