Join us this half-term as we tell the chilling history of surgery and dissect the forgotten stories of the inhabitants of Leeds Union Workhouse.

Your Tween or Teen could be driving a dual-control Defender specially adapted for our Young Off-Roader Experience.

11-17 year olds get hands-on driving experience with our highly trained instructors, and get to take on some of our most exciting obstacles around the track. Two people can share the drive, and we attach a GoPro camera so you can record your experience to share with friends and family.

The Young Off-Roader Experience will see budding drivers tackle terrains and obstacles in an unforgettable 60 minute experience.
Even if the driver has never driven before, their own personal expert instructor will guide them around the tracks and show them just how capable both they and our vehicles can be.

A typical experience includes : –

Welcome refreshments and an overview of the vehicle and its controls.
Young drivers team up with one of our expert instructors who’ll teach them how to tackle challenging off-road terrain.
The route will include rocky tracks, grass and water wading (subject to conditions). Adventure is guaranteed!

Get ready for a fun family day out at Harrogate Indoor Funfair @ The Great Yorkshire Showground.

 

Saturday 10th Feb through to Sunday 18th Feb 2024.  Morning sessions 10am-1pm, afternoon 2pm-5pm.

With jaw-dropping rides and amazing inflatables for all ages, Harrogate Indoor Funfair offers all the fun of the fair in an indoor, climate-controlled and family-friendly environment.

There is also a cafe and baby changing facilities for families on-site.

There is free parking at Yorkshire Event Centre including priority parking for blue badge holders.

The number 7 and X70 buses stop at Sainsbury’s on Wetherby Road, around one mile from the entrance.

Tickets on the door will be limited. We recommend booking online to avoid disappointment.

Riding wristbands can be purchased online for £12.99 – they will be available on the door for £14.99 subject to availability, so booking in advance is strongly urged. Riding wristbands grant access to the event, and to each ride inside – with the exception of food and games stalls. Spectator tickets for adults not wanting to go on the rides are £5, and babies carried in arms enter for free.

How do we check for woodworm?  You can ask our curator these questions and more, as well as having a go at cleaning a book with one of our special brushes! This activity will be repeated on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd November.

From 28 October to 5 November 2023 10.30am – 5.30pm, a cloak of supernatural shrouds the adventure park with a schedule of fun and creepy tricks and treats perfect for the under 12s and all the family.

Ghouls and beasties lurk in the shadows of the valley, with friendly frights plus mini and mega scares. Halloween fun is jam packed in the valley this year with everything you’d ever expect and more … it’s certainly Halloween with knobs on at Frightwater Valley!

Knock very loudly at the Trick or Treat Doors and find out which ghastly ghouls or wicked witches will meet you; you can grab a photo with your most ghastly ghoul or bothersome beasties and take a walk down Icon Avenue to meet a whole host of Halloween movies characters.

Join in at the Show Barn for a family friendly sing-along show guaranteed to keep your little monsters laughing all day; enter the Live Scare Maze – it’s family friendly during the day but as dusk falls you’ll to tread ‘scarefully’ as the darker the night, the scarier the fright!

Get into the spirit of Frightwater and come dressed in your scariest Halloween costume, there’ll be lots of prizes and winners picked each day; take part in our Fearsome facepainting; follow our Tombstone Trail around the park to find all 13 hidden tombstones – find them all and win a spooky surprise and join in with the Boo Crew for an epic finale to Frightwater Valley with your best dance moves with prizes for the best movers and shakers.

It’s fearsome fun plus all the usual rides and attractions will also be open from 10.30am, so you can have a fun-filled, frightening day full of chills, thrills and spills for the whole family!

As if you needed more, Sunday 5 November sees Fabulous Fireworks from 5.15pm for a 15 minute display choreographed to music over the Swan Lake for all our visitors in the park that day.

Come and crunch in leaves at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal this October half term.

Autumn is one of the most colourful times of year to visit Fountains Abbey as the trees are looking their best, dressed in deep reds, bright yellows and shining golds. Put your wellies on, wrap up warm and marvel at this super seasonal show as you walk, run and explore around the estate.

Keep your eyes peeled for some of the autumn delights. See if you can spot any fat sweet chestnuts bursting open. Hear the stags roaring in the deer park as they compete for status in the annual rut? Feel the leaves crunch beneath your feet. What other autumn delights will you discover?

Get adventurous on a family day out during October half term. Zip, wobble and climb your way through the play area, wander through the abbey and become a water garden explorer, climbing up the Octagon Tower and through the dark Serpentine Tunnel.

The Leeds Scare Trails at Golden Acre Park! Two Trails, Family-friendly Pumpkin Trail and a very UN-friendly Frightmare Trail! Halloween Weekend – Sat 28th & Sun 29th October 2023. Come along, It’s going to be a scream!
The Leeds Scare trails are a fabulous Halloween charity fundraiser consisting of two VERY different trails..! 100% of the revenue is donated to local charities MINT – Men In Need Together & Addingham Scouts!
  • The daytime Pumpkin Trail runs from 10-4 on Sunday 29th October 2023. Follow a trail of over 200 pumpkins along a trail in the heart of Golden Acre Park, with lots of games and activities to do along the way! This is a FREE event* and you can stay for as little or as long as you’d like. We are fundraising for some fantastic local charities so there will be some paid activities and refreshments available, as well as the chance to be entered into a prize draw!

  • The Frightmare Trail at the Leeds Scare Trails – One night only, using live and un-dead actors, this interactive Halloween House of Horrors comes to life from 6pm on Saturday 28th October with last entry at 9.30pm!
    Follow the trail around the park and get up close and personal with all manner of ghoulish creatures. With special sound and lighting effects you need to be very sure you want to enter..!
    The Trail is recommended for brave souls aged 13+ (parental discretion is suggested, children under 13 MUST be accompanied by an adult). This is a ticketed event so get yours now! If you dare…

Halloween at Hesketh Farm Park

Bolton Abbey Welly Walk

Embrace the outdoors and get ready for a muddy adventure! The Welly Walk leads you from the stepping stones to the Cavendish Pavilion cafe, whilst coming across lots of fun obstacles along the way. Pack a picnic and enjoy a family fun day out.

This is a challenging adventure and some obstacles are not suitable for all age groups. Children must be supervised at all times.

  • This is a free activity. The usual Estate admission fee applies
  • Tickets must be booked in advance
  • Children must be supervised at all times
  • This path is steep in sections with unguarded steep drops. It is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.
  • Dogs are welcome, however we do ask that you remember not all children like dogs, so please keep them on a lead.
  • Please wear appropriate footwear, especially when it has been wet – it’s not called the Welly Walk for no reason! A spare set of clothing is recommended!
