We’ve all been horrified by the images of vast areas of the ocean filled with discarded plastic. Many of us have tried to reduce our consumption of single-use plastics by opting for items with less packaging, using the Refill app to top-up reusable water bottles when we’re out and shopping at minimal waste shops like Waste Not in Burley-in-Wharfedale.
However, there are still many areas, such as kids’ parties, where it can seem difficult to cut waste. This is what inspired Caroline and Charlotte to set up Waste Not Parties; to support other parents in cutting out a large proportion of single-use plastic as easily as possible.
While we may not be able to live entirely plastic-free, changing the way we approach events that generate a lot of waste, such as children’s parties, can have a hugely positive impact.
There are two different party sets to hire from Waste Not Parties; the premium and budget options.
The premium party kit features crockery made from bamboo and comes in gorgeous, vibrant colours. It includes plates, cups, bowls, cutlery, three cotton tablecloths, cloth napkins, serving dishes, jugs, fabric bunting, paper lanterns and flannels. This costs £30 to hire for up to 16 settings and £50 for up to 32 attendees.
The budget set uses rainbow-coloured reusable plastic crockery. It costs £20 for up to 18 settings (£15 without tablecloths.) Up to 36 settings cost £35 with tablecloths and £25 without. You can also add other waste-reducing items to the party sets, such as cotton party bags, which start at £1.
Parents who have used the Waste Not Parties set love them. One review on the Facebook page reports “it really takes so much stress out of having a party”, while another stated “amazing service and kinder to the planet than disposable plates and cups.”
There was also a review enthusing about how the kit “all magically got packed away and washed with no plastic or paper sent out to landfill or hassle to me!”
Simply pick the package that suits you and email Waste Not Parties with your requirements. You can also visit the website or call 07976076819 to find out more.
You collect the kit from and return it to Burley-in-Wharfedale. Waste Not Parties takes care of all the washing-up and laundry, so you can enjoy the day, knowing that you are helping reduce waste and there won’t be a pile of washing up waiting for you once the festivities are over.
