The Roebuck, still known by some locally as ‘The Spite’, was our choice for a relaxed family lunch on a sunny Friday afternoon. On arrival it was clear that we didn’t need to worry about somewhere to park as there was ample space. You can book to sit inside but we chose to sit outside (which cannot be booked in advance). There is plenty of seating on their terrace area with additional seating and tables on a grassed area which is ideal for young children.
We chose from the Earl of Sandwich menu you but could also pick from the light lunch and main menus with additional specials. We ordered drinks from the bar inside and were told a waiter would take our order at our table. I was torn between the North Atlantic Prawns & Pink Gin Marie Rose sauce or Hot Oak Roast Salmon Salad. All sandwiches were served with chunky chips, salad and coleslaw which swayed my decision! The Roebuck offered a good selection of children’s hot meals but with it being such a hot day Miss Mini Mumbler wanted to be awkward and choose off-menu. The waiter was happy to accommodate her ham sandwich and took our order within 20 minutes of arriving.
The food arrived after 15 minutes and looked as appetising as it sounded! The salad was fresh, the prawns were big and the sauce was delish! We also ordered Honey Roast Ham Ciabatta with Tomato Chutney which went down equally well.
Having visited before we knew the sweet menu was hard to resist and so didn’t try! I had a Chocolate pot which arrived with cream and frozen summer berries – perfect on a hot day. A child’s ice cream, served with a chocolate straw, lasted all of 2 minutes. The highlight though was the Bakewell with Cherry Ripple Ice cream. For too much to eat on a lunch time but that didn’t stop us….
A big part of us choosing The Roebuck was the stunning Views of the Wharfe-Valley which are amazing at the best of times but even better in the sunshine.
The restaurant and terrace has Pram and Wheelchair access and there are plenty of highchairs available for the Mini Mumblers. Prices were as you would expect for the portion size, setting and quality of food, £40 for 3 of us including drinks.
The staff were polite and helpful throughout. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and the views and will definitely be going again!
