Playgroups and Pre-School classes

Wharfedale & Craven and the surrounding areas are a fantastic place for bringing up children and there is plenty going on  children.

Below is a list of all the local playgroups and drop in clinics throughout the week and also details of all the children’s activities classes available across our area. Please contact the organisers directly if you would like to find out further information or to confirm class times or costs.

Learn how to harness the soothing, nurturing power of massage at our baby massage classes in Bramhope, Otley, Guiseley and Wetherby.

In addition to helping you and your baby relax, massage is a great way to relieve common ailments like wind, colic and constipation and helping you and your baby to sleep. Baby massage can also provide a real neurological boost to your baby, helping to promote brain development, whilst strengthening the parent/baby bond.

Over the five-week course, you’ll learn the best ways to massage your baby, including a range of strokes, when to massage, how long to massage for, and how to adapt your massage to meet the needs of your baby.

Group baby classes are open to parents of babies aged 6 weeks to 7 months (crawling) – and are held at Wetherby, and  Nuffield Health in Harrogate and Guiseley. For each class, you’ll need to bring your own cushion and towel. Massage oil and a baby massage guide will be provided.

Moo Music Leeds run interactive, multisensory, music sessions for babies and children under 5 with their parents, grandparents or carers too. The children sing, dance, play, learn and have fun. Music is an essential part of every child’s development and each week we explore the music with sensory activities, signing, props and instruments to a new and exciting theme.

With 125+ original, upbeat, fun and educational Moo Music songs, written by a professional songwriter, we guarantee you’ll be singing along all week! The interactive sessions will help your child gain confidence and develop memory, language and coordination skills in an exciting, enjoyable and multi-sensory way. It’s a great way to make new friends – both for the children and the adults too!

Baby Massage – The newest addition to our line-up, Baby Massage is all about nurturing a wonderful bond with your newborn. Designed for babies not yet crawling, our qualified Farmers will show you how to massage your baby confidently so that you can continue with it at home.
Baby massage brings multiple benefits from calming a fussy baby and aiding digestion to help baby to sleep and ultimately developing a beautiful bond with your baby.
Join our baby massage class to meet other Mums and Dads and learn some extra skills that will help soothe your baby…hopefully giving you some much-needed sleep!
We effortlessly intertwin our calm Moo Music songs to create routines for you to learn and repeat in your own time.  This is a unique experience for you to enjoy with your baby.  Massage oil is provided.

All our developmental MOOsic and Movement sessions are expertly planned for newborn babies, toddlers to preschool-aged children! We focus on nurturing positive play experiences from infancy and creating beautiful bonding experiences for families.

In all of our sessions, we use the most incredible and original music which studio recorded and written by a West End writer and producer. This allows us to introduce your little one to high-quality music which stimulates their senses and with our themes, helps them to explore their imaginations.

Sessions are aimed at babies up to pre-crawling. This is a lively Baby Music and Sensory session just perfect to support key milestones in their development. Aireborough Children’s Centre

We are located across two sites: Guiseley Primary School and Queensway Primary School.
Our Children’s Centre works in partnership with a range of organisations such as Leeds City Council, Health Professionals, Private Providers and schools in our local area. We cover Rawdon, Yeadon, Guiseley, Hawksworth and parts of Menston and Apperley Bridge.
Groups and activities are offered for parents to be and for parents/carers of children aged 0-5. Keep a lookout for the following groups/courses: Baby Massage, Understanding Your Baby, HENRY, Healthy Relationships, Parenting Courses and more!

Self-Weigh and Play- 9 am-10.30 am at Queensway Primary School
Baby Play and Self-weigh group, free to attend and has the baby weigh scales available during this session to give parents of babies the opportunity to weigh their babies, and also has a play area set out for mums and babies to relax and enjoy a couple of hours with other parents and babies of a similar age

Tiny Tots – 1 – 2 pm at Guiseley Primary School

Tiny Tots is is a free play session for 0-12mths old children, the room will have different activities and toys which are perfect for this age range, it will include a whole range of activities which are perfectly suited to this age range. This group is £2 a session and is open on a first come first served basis so no booking required but we do recommend getting to us on time.

Bosom Buddies (Breastfeeding Support)- 9.30 am-11 am at Guiseley Primary School.
Little Rascals Stay and Play- 9.30 am-11 am at Queensway Primary School
Little Rascals is a free play session that is open for ages 0-5 years, each week we will set out different activities which will include some messy play, colouring, sticking and painting. This group also includes a healthy snack and water for the children halfway through, this group is £2 a session and is also open on a first come first served basis, so we recommend getting there on time to secure a place.

Otley Action for Older People: Parents, Tots and Seniors Playgroup

Our Parents, Tots and Seniors playgroup meets every Thursday 2-3 pm at the Chippendale Centre on Crossgate, Otley. The cost is £2 per family which includes unlimited refreshments.

Many of our older people do not have grandchildren/great-grandchildren living nearby and dearly love to spend time with young families all families welcome.

Ready Steady Readers: Ready Steady Readers challenge is available in any library in Leeds for children under 5. There are six gold stars to collect inside a friendly and accessible reading booklet, along with lots of helpful tips about enjoying books and reading as a family. Stars are collected by coming to the library, whether you stay to explore books, attend a Story & Rhyme or just pop in to borrow a book. Once they have all six stars they will receive a certificate celebrating their achievement. Families are welcome to complete the challenge multiple times.
