Follow The Journey Of A Gift Donated To The Radio Aire Mission Christmas Appeal
Watch what happens when you donate a present to the Radio Aire Cash For Kids Mission Christmas Appeal
With 1 in 4 children across the UK living in poverty this December*, for many families, Christmas is simply a luxury they can’t afford. And sadly some children in Leeds and West Yorkshire will go without a present full stop.
Which is why, every year the Cash For Kids ‘Mission Christmas’ appeal invites people to buy one extra gift alongside their Christmas shopping, that can be given to a disadvantaged local child to make their Christmas morning special.
Mission Christmas is now the biggest Toy Appeal in the UK. In 2016 it generated over £15million worth of gifts and donations which were distributed to more than 350,000 disadvantaged kids across the UK – with 23,396 of recipients in West Yorkshire.
This year Radio Aire are aiming to beat last year’s fundraising total and help to support as many children as possible from Leeds and West Yorkshire. We recently went behind the scenes of the appeal, to meet the amazing people making it all possible and to find out what happens to the thousands of gifts people donate every year, including our own. Watch the journey of our gift below.
How Can You Take Part?
Radio Aire need as many people as possible to take part, to make this the best year yet for disadvantaged families in our region. To help you simply need to:
Buy one extra gift, suitable for a child or young person aged 0-18 years.
Drop your gift off at one of the many drop-off points across West Leeds before the 17th December. You can find details of the collection points at the bottom of this page.
Please be aware, gifts must be new and should not be wrapped.
Alternatively, you can text AIRE to 70808 to donate £5 and we will buy a gift on your behalf. (Calls cost Standard network rate and100% of the donation goes to CFK).
Finally, why not join us for our very own fundraising event for Mission Christmas. We’re hosting an Under 5’s Mumbler Christmas Jumper Party at Oxygen Freejumping on the 8th Dec. It’s half price entry, with a £1 voluntary donation going to the Mission Christmas Appeal. We’ll also be a collection point for any gifts you want to donate to the appeal. You can see full details of the event here.
Cash for kids works with thousands of grass-root organisations across the UK who support disadvantaged children (0 – 18 years). Mission Christmas works closely with social workers, head teachers and the emergency services who will nominate families in crisis to be supported by the appeal.
Mission Christmas is proudly supported by B&M and hundreds of volunteers who assist with the sorting and distribution of gifts.
