Summer Bands in Leeds Parks 2019: Tarnfield Park – Herr Jens’s Band

July 7, 2019 @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Herr Jens’s Band

Join Herr Jens’s Band at Tarnfield Park in Yeadon for a free concert of brass band favourites from 2.30pm-4.30pm.

In 1987 Jens Hislop felt there was a need for a band of this type in Yorkshire and so he formed one, buying some music and arranging some more. He then began the search for 10 good players. 30 years older and many musicians later, he is still here!

The band is composed of professional, semi-professional, retired professional and good amateur musicians from the various bands, orchestras and ensembles in Yorkshire. It specialised in traditional German “Bierkeller” music and became the leading “Oompah” band in Yorkshire, with astonishing versatility among its players. It comprises three reeds, six brass and a drummer.

It’s time to dig out the deck chairs and take to the great outdoors for a delightful dose of music al fresco. This year’s Summer Bands series includes over 100 concerts in parks across Leeds from Golden Acre Park and Roundhay Park to Pudsey Park, New Wortley Recreation Ground and Alwoodley Village Green. Once again Leeds parks will be filled with music provided free of charge* from some of the region’s finest talent in these popular events.

Every Sunday afternoon until September, local Big Bands, Swing, Brass, Jazz, Concert, and the celebratory sounds of Jewish Klezmer bands will perform afternoon concerts in the open air from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.
