Events throughout Festival Week
Scarecrow Trail and Competition
This year’s annual Scarecrow Competition theme is ‘Once Upon a Bookcase’. Whether fairy tale or classic fable, we invite you to recreate a character or scene from your favourite fiction in your front garden! We are looking forward to welcoming everyone to the streets of Burley from Harry Potter to Huckleberry Finn.
The Scarecrow Competition will again be open to residents, businesses and village organisations.
The categories for 2018 will be: Traditional scarecrows
Business/organisation entries.
Judging will go on through the week and will be carried out by the participating public.
There will be three prizes:£25 for the winner in the traditional scarecrows category; £15 for the runner-up and £10 for the third prize
£10 for the winner of the prize draw for those entering their public judging Trail forms (the winner will be picked from the prize draw at the Scarecrow Prize Giving event).
A cup for the winning business/organisation.
Please have your scarecrows on display by 6pm on Friday August 17th
Cost: No cost for scarecrow entries. £1 for the Trail map and Scarecrow Trail judging form – available during the Festival from the Roundhouse.
Booking: Scarecrow entry forms can be downloaded from the website or collected from the Library, or by emailing burleyscarecrows@gmail.com
NB – your entry forms need to be in by Friday 10th August
Treasure Hunt
Time: Any time during Festival week.
Have a go with family and friends at completing this year’s Treasure Hunt from Janet Ault, slightly different this year but still fun for all the family. You can pick up the list of clues from the Festival Office in the Roundhouse during the week and complete the Treasure Hunt at your leisure. Prizes for the winners.
Cost: £1 – Forms on sale from the Roundhouse from Saturday 18th August to August 25th during opening hours, 10am-4pm.
Yorkshire Quiz
Time: Any time during Festival week
How well do you know Yorkshire? Test your knowledge with the 4th Yorkshire quiz prepared by Gillian McIntosh. Some questions easy, some not so easy. How many can you answer? Prizes for the winners.
Cost: £1 – Forms on sale from the Roundhouse from Saturday 18th August to August 25th during opening hours, 10am-4pm
Cryptic Burley
Time: Any time during Festival week
How well do you know the village? A tour round 10 village locations – found by cryptic clues. Collect a number at each location to solve the last riddle. Prizes for the winners.
Cost: £1 – Forms on sale from the Roundhouse from Saturday 18th August to August 25th during opening hours, 10am-4pm
Festival Week at St Mary’s Parish Centre, Open Door, Station Road (open throughout the year)
Times: 10am – 12 noon and 2pm – 4pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
Please come in for a chat and a cuppa. Very informal, friendly place to come and relax and meet others in the community. Just drop in for as long as you wish. You are very welcome.
Cost: No charge, but you can choose to make a donation.
