Enjoy a guided tour of the night sky, focusing on objects that reside far away from Earth within our Milky Way galaxy and even beyond, best observed through a large telescope. View a range of constellations and the objects that reside within them, including deep sky objects such as nebulae, star clusters and galaxies under some of the darkest skies in England and possibly even a glimpse of objects from within our Solar System or the Moon.
Wrap up warm as it can get very cold on a night. We’ll provide hot drinks to keep you warm. We recommend bringing your own flask, camping chair and blanket as we only have a limited number available.

Apollo 11… You’ve read about it – you may have even watched it on TV – now experience it! It was the spaceflight that landed Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the moon. Now you can relive the whole mission in amazing virtual reality. Sit in the cockpit as the rockets propel you into space, see how earth looks from the moon and feel the adrenaline as the module re-enters earth’s atmosphere. It’s sure to truly move you.
Alternatively, you can choose to experience a different astro-adventure: Exploring the solar system and assisting to repair the International Space Station.

Whitby Astronomical Society invite you to … observe the majestic winter canopy of stars from the heart of the North York Moors. Visit some of winter’s wonders, from stellar nurseries and brilliant galactic clusters to supernova remnants and remote galaxies.
Stand at the edge of the solar system (at least a scale version of it!) and contemplate infinity.
If cloudy, there will be an indoor presentation –‘Journey to the far side – a ride across our Galaxy’.

An exciting stargazing evening in the beautiful village of Terrington in the Howardian Hills. The wonders of the spring sky will be glimpsed with powerful telescopes, including galaxies far, far away. Plus we’ll look for a fab three of the moon, Uranus and Venus, all close to each other in the evening sky!
There’ll also be colourful beginner’s talks, a chance to handle space rocks over four billion years old and yummy homemade cakes.

For a second year running Fyling Hall School have teamed up with Whitby & District Astronomical Society to host a stargazing party – free of charge!
The evening starts with a scaled solar system demonstration before stargazing on the front lawn. The fantastic location enables a wonderful vantage point looking out towards the North Sea. You’ll be guided on what is visible, pointing out the brighter stars, constellations and objects of interest.
