Bradford Science Festival 2019

July 18, 2019 - July 21, 2019

This year’s Bradford Science Festival will be space-themed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.

There will be many space-themed activities throughout The Broadway Bradford, City Park and the National Science and Media Museum.

Most events at this year’s festival will be on 20 and 21 July with a couple of special events at the National Science and Media Museum on 18 and 19 July.

Become an astronaut for the day

Put Bradford on the map and capture your visit to this great northern event by sharing memorable photos using “your face here” life-size portraits. Designed and created by our very own St Francis Catholic Primary School. “Your face here” will be in City Park throughout the weekend.

Experiments for young people

This wouldn’t be a science festival without wacky experiments for all to get involved in. Visit our science busking stand located in City Park throughout the festival

Children and families will get the opportunity to create Star Wars sound effects, learn how sound travels, make a tornado’s vortex and create a water vessel.

Learning about plastics and recycling

Bradford Council’s Future Leaders have collaborated with the Council’s recycling team, Yorkshire Water and ND Dance Academy to raise awareness on the serious worldwide topic of plastic pollution.

Bradford Council’s recycling team along with their exhibition stand will be in City Park to educate visitors on what plastics, other materials can be recycled, and how they are recycled.

Name the bin lorry

Visitors will also be able to get close up to a bin lorry and participate in a “name the bin lorry” competition, have the opportunity of winning a Broadway shopping voucher and their chosen name added to the bin lorry.

Yorkshire Water’s exhibition stand and “Yorkshire on Tap” water bar will promote its anti-plastics initiative and promote water saving initiatives.

ND Dance Academy will deliver a dance in City Park’s mirror pool that illustrates suffering and devastation of ocean life caused by plastic waste.

The Plastic Lab continues inside the Impressions Gallery where can you learn more about plastic pollution in our oceans:

  • free exhibition by an award-winning British photographer
  • experience ocean plastic pollution in virtual reality
  • make your plastic pledge to help keep ours seas plastic-free

Share your selfies

Be the star that you are by capturing and sharing memorable photos using our Bradford Science Festival 2019 ‘selfie frames’.

The ‘selfie frames’ will be moving around The Broadway Bradford, City Park and the National Science and Media Museum on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 July.
