During the summer holidays, come along and take part in our wellbeing Wednesdays and The Great Garden Adventure activities at RHS Garden Harlow Carr. There will be fun for all the family including a host of Forest school workshops, and firm favourites The Garden Detectives will be on hand for some summer mayhem.
Weekly activities during summer:
Every Monday: Forest School, 10 am–12.30 pm and 1 pm–3 pm
Every Tuesday and Thursday: The Garden Detectives, 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm
Every Wednesday: Wellbeing Wednesday, 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm

2. Mother Shipton’s Cave – Magical Woodland Adventure
Like glittering dust on fairy wings, children’s dreams are magical things! There’s something truly magical happening this Summer in Knaresborough for all the family. Explore an enchanted wood filled with fairy houses, giant toadstools, and fairy-tale-themed displays.
Second star to the right, and straight on ‘til morning. To follow the fairy door trail, all you’ll need is faith, trust, and pixie dust! Dressing up in your sparkliest fairy wings or pointiest elf hat is thoroughly encouraged, prizes will be awarded to Mother Shipton’s favourites when you share them on Instagram #mothershiptons.
Whether you’re a gnome, a fairy, an elf or a pixie, there’s something for everyone. See what curiosities are hanging from the Petrifying Well, make a wish in the Wishing Well, and step inside the cave where Mother Shipton was born. Visit the museum to see petrified celebrity items and browse the unique attraction gift shop.
Go wild in the Adventure Playground or have your own woodland tea party with artisanal coffee, cakes, sandwiches, and ice cream available to purchase from our vintage-style coffee kiosk. There are plenty of picnic benches with scenic views of the River Nidd and Ancient Royal Forest.

Superheroes of the world unite as Stockeld Park prepares to open for Summer! They don’t want to miss out on all of the fun so look out for the likes of Spiderman, Thor, Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Hulk and Iron Man as you enjoy all that our Enchanted Forest has to offer! 4. Fountains Abbey
Grab a picnic and spend a full day running, jumping and exploring here at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal.
This summer is all about having fun in nature. Take part in a fun trail, have a go at crafting and discover all the quirks and curiosities of this huge site. There’s something new to see and do each week of the six-week school holidays.
Think you’ve seen it all? Think again! Venture out into the deer park and find even more things to clamber under, climb over and hide in. The longer days have finally arrived so run free and enjoy everything this 900-acre World Heritage Site has to offer.
Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal is open daily 10 am – 6:30 pm (last entry is 4:30 pm) and there’s no need to book. Just come along and have fun in the sunshine. National Trust members visit free.

5. Summer at Lotherton
This year Lotherton is going green with a programme of Sustainable Summer holiday events running from the end of July – September.
Pick up a trail when you arrive and do a bit of native nature spotting around the estate. You can hunt for bugs, spot lots of different flowers and plants, and look out for the sustainable signs which tell you a bit more about what Lotherton is doing to help tackle waste and encourage sustainability.
There will be different activities in the hall, with sustainable crafts available for families to take part in. In Wildlife World the animals will be enjoying the longer days of summer and you can be inspired by them with activities in the Nestbox. And on weekdays in the gardens, there will be even more sustainable craft activities to get stuck into.
Don’t forget to step inside the museum to see the two current exhibitions on display: Homes of the Gascoignes, and What Shall I Wear.
Bring a picnic blanket and enjoy a full day out at our two playgrounds, beautiful gardens, a historic museum and see the amazing animals in Wildlife World.

7. Mission Out – Epic Outdoor Adventure
Mission Out is a brand-new outdoor attraction where children, aged 6 to 14 years, can experience active entertainment and epic challenges! Opening Summer 2022!

8. East Riddlesden Hall
Ready, set, go! Come out and play this summer and enjoy a family adventure at East Riddlesden Hall, with activities to enjoy every day during the school holidays.
Whether you want to take part in the “come and play” challenge or relax in a deck chair and enjoy the sunshine, there’s something for the whole family to enjoy on a visit to the National Trust property near Keighley.
To celebrate the start of the holidays, East Riddlesden Hall will be open for free on Monday 25 July. Join in with their Free Entry Day events, including seed planting, cross stitching and wildlife discovery.

9. The Himalayan Garden & Sculpture Park
Set deep in the tranquil Yorkshire countryside is a hidden gem waiting for you to discover.
Rich in wildlife, winding woodland paths, cooling waterways and unique land art, the Himalayan Garden & Sculpture Park near Ripon has 45 acres of gardens, an arboretum, lakes and over 80 sculptures …. a log cabin tearoom & horsebox full of tasty treats with a woodland playground for kids.
Enjoying the great outdoors is good for the brain, body and soul and it doesn’t come much better than this wildlife haven for a family summer day out. The little ones get free entry to the garden and can enjoy searching out all the Fairy Doors hidden around the garden; wildlife spotting with our butterfly explorer guide and stumbling upon the collection of quirky sculptures dotted all over the park – and maybe even discover the Himalayan Yeti’s home!

10. Hesketh Farm Park
There’s loads to do at Hesketh Farm Park, including feeding and stroking the animals. As well as the animals we have lots of play equipment to keep everyone entertained. Inside the barn this includes a sand pit, straw maze, slide, ride-on tractors for under 3’s and pedal tractors for 4 to 7 year olds. If you venture outside you will find swings and slides, our wooden agility course, pedal go-karts, the spider’s net climbing frame and our giant tractor to explore.
If you’re feeling peckish we have a small cafe from which you can enjoy a delightful homemade snack.
